Dear State Captains,

Some breaking news today about FY 2017 funding for the NEA—and it is good news!

Congress is poised to approve a nearly $2 million increase for the NEA!

How Did We Get Here?

As you may recall, Congress has been extending deadlines, having not come to an agreement on FY 2017 funding since the fiscal year began on October 1, 2016—7 months ago! Recall the “recap” included in the Arts Advocacy Day Handbook!

However, that all changed on Sunday, and at 2am this morning (Monday), text was released. This is an “omnibus” agreement to provide federal funding now until September 30, 2017. The U.S. House and U.S. Senate still need to pass the agreement, and the President still needs to sign the agreement, but it is looking likely that this agreement will finally close the books on FY 2017, leading Congress to next fully focus on FY 2018, where the President has proposed termination for both the NEA and NEH.
